The Artie Fest Committee began offering enrollment in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to children in Martinsville in 2023 and now, thanks to a partnership between Artie Fest and the Morgan County Public Library Foundation, with support from the Mooresville and the Morgan County Public Libraries, the program is expanding to include ALL children living in Morgan County. The Imagination Library mails a high-quality, age-appropriate book directly to children’s homes each month. Each child enrolled in the program receives one book per month from birth to age five - at no cost to families. Dolly envisioned creating a lifelong love of reading and inspiring children to Dream More, Learn More, Care More and Be More. The program is funded in part by the State of Indiana, and from local donations.
“We’re so excited about the expansion of this program,” said Krista Ledbetter, Director of the Morgan County Public Library. “Early childhood literacy is the key to future academic achievement, and the access to high quality books that the Imagination Library provides means that parents can easily support their child’s learning.”
Parents interested in registering their children can visit www.imaginationlibrary.com or stop by any Library location for a form. Donations for continued support of this program may be made to the Morgan County Public Library Foundation (a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization), PO Box 1532, Martinsville.
"Early literacy skills begin to develop in the first 5 years of life" states Diane Huerkamp, Director of the Mooresville Public Library. "Early childhood is a magical time for learning and exploration. Parents/caregivers who talk to and encourage their children to talk early in life have an edge over children who hear very little language or literacy building activities and thus are better prepared to learn to read. The Mooresville Public Library wants every child in Morgan County to be given the best possible chance to read and succeed and by partnering with Artie Fest, the Morgan County Public Library System, and local donors, we are honored to ensure that our county's children have access to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library."
